Why Your Honda Key Is Giving You Trouble – or Might in the Future
Honda came out with a new key design in 2002 for the CRV and phased it into the Accord, Civic, and Pilot models the next year. The design of the tumblers and keys are both problematic.
On the original Honda key there are tracks. On the Honda lock tumbler, you will see a ledge that protrudes from the bottom left. It looks like a small spike.
Over time, that spike wears down and stops riding correctly on the key. The tracks on the key also wear down and the edges get rounded, which compounds the problem.
If your Honda key is giving you problems in the door or the ignition, we can repair the issue with a new set of tumblers in the lock and a new key.
